Mr. Virgil J. Kohrmann passed away on Wednesday March 20, 2013 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center at the age of 94 years surrounded by his loved ones. Virgil J. Kohrmann was born on December 19, 1918 in rural Bartelso the son of Edward and Emma (Hollenkamp) Kohrmann. He married Marjorie Dierkes May 21, 1949.
Virgil is survived by his wife Marjorie; three children: Cynthia Flynn & special friend Mike Rodick of Swansea, Randy Kohrmann and wife Bonnie of Carlyle, and Rick Kohrmann and wife Toni of Germantown. His grandchildren: Tiffany Briscoe and husband Lane of Patoka, Ryan McCann and wife Beth of Imperial, Mo, Kurt Kohrmann and wife Jamie of Carlyle, Lori Kohrmann of Carlyle, Spencer Kohrmann of Germantown; step grandchildren: Nicole Olliges of Indianapolis, IN, Brittany Netemeyer and husband Matt of Germantown; four great grandchildren: Logan and Lukas Briscoe, Kamdyn Kohrmann, and Nolan McCann; sister: Marcella Kohnen and husband Steve of Germantown; three brothers: Joe “Fireball” Kohrmann of Germantown, Bob Kohrmann and wife Blanche of Bartelso, Ralph Kohrmann and wife Janice of Bartelso; brother-in-law: Norman Dierkes and wife Pauline of Carlyle; sister-in-law: Donna Melius and husband Pete of St. Charles, MO, and Bernita Kohrmann of Germantown; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kohrmann was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law Ruby Norman; father-in-law and mother-in-law: William and Ruby (Norman) Dierkes; his brothers: Louis Kohrmann, Victor Kohrmann, Richard Kohrmann, Elmer Kohrmann, and Edward “Fritz” Kohrmann; his sisters-in-law: Regina Kohrmann, Elsie Kohrmann, Delores Kohrmann, Laurann Grady, and Rosie Kohrmann; and his brothers-in law: Kelly Dierkes, and Phillip Grady
Virgil was inducted into the Army on March 7, 1941. He was a T Sergeant in the 3rd Division, 7th Infantry, E Company. He received two Purple Hearts for being wounded in action in France and Italy and many other medals for his service.
Virgil was in sales all his life. He started his own business in 1987 which was Carlyle Pest Control.
Mr. Kohrmann was a member of St. Mary Parish, a past Commander of the VFW Post 3523, a member of the American Legion and Catholic War Veterans.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday March 25, 2013 at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis at 2:30 PM.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 until 5:00 PM at the Frerker Funeral Home and on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of service at St. Mary Church in Carlyle.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home which is serving the Kohrmann family.
