Virginia L. Vandeloo, age 81, of Carlyle passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Carlyle Healthcare Center. She was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on November 21, 1938 the daughter of Jose and Heginia (Aceves) Hernandez. She and her husband William “Bill” Vandeloo were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon in 1989 by Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo.
In addition to her husband, Virginia is survived by her step-children: Eric Roeckenhaus of Breese, Scot Vandeloo of Carlyle, Jennifer Vandeloo of St. Charles, IL, and Mark Vandeloo of Jacksonville, FL; seven step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; a brother, Joe Hernandez of Colorado, a sister, Vickie Peterman and husband Steve of Belleville; sister-in-law, Paulette Wellen of Trenton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her mother and father and her siblings: Theodora Hernandez, Lucius Hernandez, Carman Hernandez, Marie Hernandez, and Simon Hernandez.
Virginia enjoyed knitting afghans and working on puzzles as well as traveling to Mexico to visit her family and friends.
The Vandeloo family would like to thank Sister Barbara and Fr. George Mauck for their thoughtful care and service throughout Virginia’s illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carlyle.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle.
Everyone in attendance at the church and cemetery will be required to wear a facemask and follow social distancing guidelines.
Memorials made in memory of Virginia are suggested to the Carlyle Healthcare Center Alzheimer’s Unit or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at church or at Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
