Ferd J. Von Bokel, 82, of New Baden, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland. He was born October 19, 1924 in Aviston, son of Ben J. and Kate (Fuhler) Von Bokel. He married Helen Hermeling on August 6, 1947 in Germantown and she survives in New Baden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, James Von Bokel and wife Mary of Trenton; one daughter, Nancy Von Bokel and husband John Bumpus of Cedar Falls, IA; three grandchildren, Matt Von Bokel and wife Stephanie, Becky Von Bokel and Sarah Bumpus; two brothers, Robert Von Bokel and wife Dolores of Aviston, Ralph Von Bokel and wife Mary Jane of Breese; two sisters, Mary Schulte and Betty Von Bokel both of Aviston; and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary and Ken Bolhofner of Aviston, Bernice Von Bokel of New Baden and Magdalene Hermeling of Millstadt. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bernard Von Bokel and Paul B. Von Bokel and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Edwin Hermeling, Raymond Hermeling and Clara and Leo Schulte. Mr. Von Bokel was a retired farmer and a member of St. George Parish and Holy Name. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. George Parish and will be received at the church or Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden, which is in charge of arrangements.
