Robert T. "Bob" Von Bokel, 80, of Aviston, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born October 26, 1930 in Breese Township, IL son of Ben J. and Catherine "Kate" (Fuhler) Von Bokel. He married Dolores L. Albers on April 10, 1956 in Bartelso and she survives in Aviston. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Janice Von Bokel of Aviston, Diane Von Bokel of Carlyle, and Linda (John) Majchrzak of Albers; three sons, Gary (Kris) Von Bokel of Germantown, Karl (Amy)Von Bokel of O’Fallon, MO, and Brian (Bonnie)Von Bokel of Aviston; 13 grandchildren, Lisa Von Bokel, Craig (Alicia) Von Bokel, Krista Von Bokel, Jennifer (David) Hall, Michael Majchrzak, Jackson Von Bokel, Carter Von Bokel, Avery Von Bokel, Tyler Von Bokel, Zachary Von Bokel, Anna Von Bokel, Claire Von Bokel and Cameron Von Bokel; a great-grandchild, Kyler Von Bokel; a brother, Ralph (Mary Jane) Von Bokel of Breese; two sisters, Mary Schulte and Betty Von Bokel of Aviston; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen Von Bokel and Bernice Von Bokel of New Baden, Mary Bulhofner of Aviston, Marie Albers of Breese, Henry "Jitter" Albers of Damiansville, and Richard Albers of Bartelso. He was preceded in death by his parents, three children, Roger Von Bokel, Sharon Von Bokel and Mary Kay Von Bokel; a grandchild, Kyle Von Bokel; three brothers, Ferd Von Bokel, Paul Von Bokel, and Bernard Von Bokel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leona and Alfred Voss, Norbert Albers, Viola and Edward Korte, Lucille Albers, Margie Albers and Eugene Albers; he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Cecilia Albers. Mr. Von Bokel was a dairy farmer. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Francis Parish, the Knights of Columbus Council 11110 in Aviston, and a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 1239 in Aviston. He enjoyed playing cards. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 17, 2010 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 and on Friday, December 17, 2010 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m., the Knights of Columbus will visit at 7 p.m. and the American Legion will visit at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Community Link in Breese or St. Francis Church or to the American Legion Post 1239 and will be received at the funeral home.
