Wilbert F. “Bill” Voss, 87, of Trenton, IL died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese, IL. He was born July 2, 1923 in Beckemeyer, IL, son of Frank and Elizabeth (Kohrmann) Voss. He married Mildred D. “Mil” Ratermann on October 18, 1949 at St. Dominic Church in Breese, IL and she preceded him in death on June 6, 2003. He is survived by three sons, Mark (Mary Ellen nee Schuette) Voss of Ballwin, MO, Charles (Diane nee Nelson) Voss of Sammamish, WA, and John (Vicki nee Westover) Voss of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Peter “Jay” Voss, Matthew Voss, and Nicholas Voss, Taylor (Matthew) Levinson, Will Voss, and Laura Voss; great grandson, Waylon Levinson; a sister, Helen Hemann of Germantown, IL; a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Voss of Damiansville, IL; and a special friend, Anna Nelson of Dallas, TX. In addition to his wife and his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence Voss, Ernest Voss, Alfred Voss and Frank Voss; and his sisters, Irene Dingwerth, Luella Varel, and Marcella Borgmeyer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eugene Hemann, Marie Voss, Lucille Voss, Leona Voss, John Dingwerth, Anthony Varel, Edward Borgmeyer, Emma & Clarence Zahner, Clara & Henry Zurliene, Rose & Albin Detmer, Ray & Leona Ratermann, Frances Ratermann, and Eleanor & Charles Lewis. Mr. Voss was the owner- operator of Wilbert Voss Carpet Service in Trenton for 50 years and retired in 1985. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and served during WWII. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Trenton, IL and Trenton Knights of Columbus Council 2932. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton, IL with Fr. Dennis Voss officiating. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Voss’s body was donated to St. Louis University School of Medicine. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Louis University School of Medicine for the education of physicians in the early detection of cancer and will be received at the church or Hempen Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.
