Walter L. Wessel of Hoffman, Illinois died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese at the age of 90 years. Mr. Wessel was born in Fairmont, Minnesota on October 2, 1917 the son of Edward and Amanda (Nolte) Wessel. He married Naomi Hanke on August 28, 1948 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman and she survives at the Carlyle Healthcare Center.Mr. Wessel is survived by two daughters: Margo Marshall and husband Mike of Carlton, Texas and Monica Wessel of Denver, Colorado; two sons: Stewart Wessel and wife Donelle of Murphysboro, Illinois and Joel Wessel and wife Becky of Carlyle; six grandchildren; two sisters: Elfreda Turnmire and Luella Jurgensen; and four brothers: Loren Wessel, Reinhardt Wessel, Edward Wessel and Howard Wessel.Walter was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Harold Wessel and Roger Wessel.
Mr. Wessel was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, the Lutheran Layman’s League, the Men’s Octet and the Hoffman Lion’s Club. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was a retired carpenter.Funeral services will be Monday, July 21, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman with Pastor Stephen Krenz officiating. The interment will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.Friends may visit with the family at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman on Monday from 9 to 10:30 A.M.
