Jeannine E. Wangler, 84, of Highland and formerly of New Baden, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. She was under the care of Family Hospice of Belleville. She was born April 7, 1929 in Belleville, daughter of William and Luella (Herold) Hill. She married Philip A. “P.J.” Wangler on May 28, 1948 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden and he preceded her in death on July 21, 2012. She is survived by her children, P.J. (Kathy) Wangler of Shiloh, Cindy Ilges of Highland, and Bill (Beth Koenig) Wangler of O’Fallon; three grandchildren, Ryan (Heather) Ilges, Amanda (Carl) Vogel, and Kyle Ilges; three great-grandchildren, Gage, Kreytn, and Baylor Ilges; two sisters, Colleen Rock of Oklahoma City, OK, and Mary Ann (Harry) Patterson of O’Fallon, MO; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Gartrell of Mulberry, FL; she is also survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother, William Hill; brothers-in-law, William Rock, Leon Lavann, and James Gartrell; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Philip J. and Mary Wangler. Jeannine and her husband were owner/operators of Hill’s Bakery in New Baden. After retirement in 2000 she moved to Highland. She enjoyed painting, raising dogs and riding horses. She was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2013 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2013 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. Memorials may be made to Family Hospice of Belleville and will be received at the funeral home.
