Josephine L. Wellen, 91, of Albers, Ill., died on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Caring First in Breese, Ill. She was born on March 27, 1914 in Bartelso, Ill., daughter of William and Catherine (Trame) Wellinghoff. She married Alphonse B. Wellen on May 11, 1937 in Bartelso and he preceded her in death on June 15, 1993. Surviving are her children, Linda Singleton of Granite City, Ill., Betty Schulte and husband Hubert of Beckemeyer, Ill., Roger Wellen and wife Cecelia, David Wellen and wife Bonnie, and Ken Wellen and wife Brenda, all of Albers; 11 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren and also survived by nephews & nieces. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Wellen was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Ladies Sodality. She was a homemaker and together with her husband, operated Wellen TV Service in Albers. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at St. Bernard Church in Albers with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer and Rev. Louis Koehr officiating. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call Friday, October 14, 2005 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday, October 15, 2005 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Hempen Funeral home in Albers. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
