Wilfred A. Kueper, age 86 of Carlyle passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Carlyle Healthcare Center. Willie was born in Carlyle on April 30, 1930 the son of Frank and Helena (Hilmes) Kueper. He married Edna Kampwerth on November 28, 1964 in Aviston and she survives in Carlyle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Wilfred was preceded by his parents, and brothers: Ray, Gib, Hozy, Kueper and two sisters: Mildred Huff and Dorothy Buchmiller.
Willie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Carlyle and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the Centralia Sentinel after 30 years and also worked at the Carlyle Union Banner. He served as past president for the Carlyle Civic and Recreation Club, a 50 year member of the Carlyle Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Mr. Kueper was inducted into the Clinton County Baseball Hall of Fame as the official scorer. While he liked all sports, bowling was his favorite. His most honorable achievement was winning the Greater Carlyle Tournament Singles Event in 1961 with a score of 715 and all events with a 1,925 total score. He also enjoyed golfing, playing softball with The Foam Blowers, and attending high school sporting events.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Church in Carlyle on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 10:00 am with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Carlyle.
Family and friends may call from 8:30 until the time of services at St. Mary Church on Thursday.
Contributions in memory of Mr. Kueper are suggested to St. Mary Church or to the charity of donor’s choice and will be received at church or at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
