William A. “Will” Thoms
William “Will” Thoms of Sorento, Illinois, formerly of Carlyle, died at his home on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the age of 49 years. Will was born in Carbondale, Illinois on February 25, 1965,the son of Paul and Ruth (Rohr) Thoms. He married Carla Birdsong in Edwardsville, Illinois on October 29, 1999 and she survives.
Will is also survived by his parents: Paul and Ruth Thoms of Carlyle; a stepdaughter: Amber Birdsong; two sisters: Kris Slater and husband James of Belleville, Illinois and Paula Thoms and her partner Kim Woodard of Bemoseen, Vermont; and his dog Dicey.
Will was a chef and thoroughly enjoyed cooking and music. He helped with high schools to improve their halftime programs. He was a full-age member of the Black Knights Drum and Bugle Corps and in his youth was extremely active with skateboarding.
Friends may visit with the family Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 6 to 8:00 P.M. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Earl Menchhofer officiating.
Committal services will be private.
For those wishing to honor Will with a memorial, the family suggests the Black Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, the American Cancer Society, or to the charity of the donor’s choice and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle.
A Celebration of Will’s Life will be held at a later date.
