Robert D. Wilson, 72, of New Baden, died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. He was born December 25, 1935 in East St. Louis, son of John H. and Thelma P. (Switzer) Wilson. He married Mary A. Kennedy on October 15, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Church in East St. Louis and she survives in New Baden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen (Jean) Wilson of Belleville, Michelle (Gary) Wulff of Lamonte, MO, Martin (Carole) Wilson of St. Louis, MO and Robin (Richard) Voegtle of Palmdale, CA; nine grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Ryan, John, Brian, Brendan, Eric, Amy, and Adam; three step grandchildren, Felicia, Stephanie and Amanda; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Cox of Sikeston, MO; two sisters-in-law, Vada Kennedy and Lucy Kennedy of Fairview Heights; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Wilson worked for various electrical companies in St. Louis, Mo, and most recently for Walden Technologies, Inc. in Glen Carbon. He was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, New Baden. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2008 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or for masses and will be received at the funeral home.
