John H. Wolters, 96, of Aviston, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Countryside Manor in Aviston. He was born March 12, 1915 in Aviston, son of Herman and Caroline (Kuhl) Wolters. He married Pauline E. Lampe on November 28, 1945 in Aviston and she preceded him in death on March 24, 2009. Mr. Wolters is survived by two sons, Jim (Carol) Wolters of Maryville and John G. (Marilyn) Wolters of Highland; five grandchildren, Eric Wolters, Kara (Brett) Johnson, Chad Wolters, Jill Wolters and Paul Wolters; two great- grandchildren, Chandler Wolters and Stephen Wolters; a brother, Ralph (Florence) Wolters of Albers; a sister, Frieda (Ed) Schomaker of New Baden; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rose Isabelle and Clarence Holtmann of Albers, Ralph and Florence Lampe of Aviston, Marie Litteken of Charleston, Dolores Lampe of Aviston, and Adelpha “Dolly” Lampe of Breese. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph “Joe” Wolters, Sr., Fred “Fritz” Wolters, and Otto and Wilbert Wolters in infancy; six sisters, Catherine “Katie” Gress, Cecilia Niemann, Bertha “Bert” Horstmann, Mary Louise Ratermann, Josephine Gunn, and Dorothy “Dort” Richter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marie Wolters, Cecilia Wolters, John Gress, Aloys “Ollie” Niemann, Charles Horstmann, Sylvester Ratermann, Claude Gunn, Richard Richter, Laverne Litteken, Anthony Lampe, Benedict Lampe, Bernice and Eugene Von Hatten, and Clara Lampe in infancy; he was also preceded by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Rose (Rakers) Lampe. Mr. Wolters worked for Kuhn Lumber in Trenton for 33 years before his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WWII. He was a member of St. Francis Parish, Aviston, the Knights of Columbus Council 11110, Aviston, Trenton V.F.W., and a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 1239, Aviston. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2011 at Hempen Funeral Home in Aviston. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m., the V.F.W. will visit at 6:30 p.m., the Knights of Columbus will visit at 7 p.m. and the American Legion will visit at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Parish or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home
