Wolters, Verneida

Verneida M. Wolters, 77, of New Baden, formerly of Aviston, died Monday, November 13, 2006 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. She was born June 19, 1929 in St. Rose, daughter of Henry and Mathilda (Schulte) Essenpreis. She married Frank T. Wolters, Jr. on June 19, 1951 in St. Rose and he preceded her in death on September 17, 2004. She is survived by a son, Matthew Wolters and wife Denise of New Baden; two daughters, Christine Bauer and husband Charles of Aviston and Mary Ann Wolters of DuQuoin; five grandchildren, Michelle Hagen and husband Adrian, Michael Bauer and Theodore Bauer, Lynne Wolters and Cassandra Wolters; two great grandchildren, Andrew Hagen and Nicole Hagen; two sisters, Jeanette Tebbe of St. Rose and Florence Schneider and husband Roy of Highland. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother- in- law, Arnold Tebbe. Mrs. Wolters was formerly a cook at the Aviston Grade School. She was a member of St. George Parish in New Baden and formerly a member of St. Francis Parish in Aviston. She was a sponsor of a child in Guatemala through the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden with Rev. Eugene Neff officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2006 and from 8 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association or to The Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, 1 Elmwood Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66103 or will be received at the funeral home.
